UC-Architecture Hosts Seminar on Health Facilities Design and Planning

UC- Architecture Department successfully held a seminar titled “Introduction on Health Facilities and Planning: An Open Forum on Hospital Design and Planning” on June 9, 2023, focusing on the critical role of design in enhancing patient care and healthcare efficiency.

The seminar emphasized that patient care and design quality go hand in hand- just as healthcare professionals follow standards of practice to ensure patient well-being, architects and designers must adhere to rigorous design principles to deliver functional, safe, and healing environments.

Architecture students, faculty members, and guests gathered to learn about the complex considerations behind hospital and health facility planning. Discussions covered design standards, spatial organization, infection control, accessibility, and environmental sustainability- factors that directly influence patient comfort, staff performance, and overall healthcare outcomes.

The open forum format allowed participants to engage with speakers, ask practical questions, and gain deeper understanding of how thoughtful design can improve healthcare delivery. The exchange of ideas encouraged students to view hospital design not just as a technical exercise but as an act of compassion and social responsibility.

Events like this reflect UC’s ongoing commitment to preparing architecture students for real-world challenges by bridging design education with social purpose and public welfare.

The seminar supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting professional learning opportunities that connect academic knowledge with real-world design applications. It advances SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through discussions on innovative, efficient, and sustainable healthcare design standards. It aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by highlighting how architectural design contributes to improving healthcare environments and patient outcomes. Finally, it supports SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration between educators, students, and professionals in advancing health-oriented design practices.
